Token unlocks are easy to reduce to a simple bearish headline, but the trading reality is more nuanced. Binance Square education explains that unlocks release previously locked tokens into possible circulation, which can affect supply and demand. The impact depends on size, recipient type, market liquidity, vesting history and whether demand can absorb the new float.
The first question is not whether the token will fall. It is how large the unlock is relative to circulating supply and normal trading volume. A small operational unlock for ecosystem incentives is different from a large team or investor allocation that was purchased at much lower valuations. Liquidity conditions around the event matter as much as the calendar date.
Traders should also watch behavior before the unlock. If price weakens for days while open interest rises, the market may already be positioning for supply pressure. If funding becomes extremely negative and spot depth remains healthy, the event may be crowded on the short side. Neither condition guarantees direction, but both change execution risk.
A practical pre-trade plan includes the unlock date, token amount, recipient category, expected circulating-supply change, average daily volume, current spot depth, funding rates and a clear invalidation level. The goal is to avoid reacting emotionally when the event arrives and to treat supply as one input among several, not as a standalone trading signal.
