Token unlock calendars should be checked before chasing altcoin breakouts

Scheduled supply releases can change liquidity, spreads and post-breakout follow-through even when the chart looks strong.

Token unlocks are a supply event, not just a calendar footnote. BeInCrypto reported that more than $660 million of token unlocks were scheduled for the third week of July, including projects such as Connex, deBridge and Arbitrum. CoinMarketCap also maintains unlock and vesting schedules for major crypto projects.

The market impact is not automatic. Some unlocks are already expected, some recipients do not sell immediately, and strong demand can absorb new supply. But for traders, ignoring unlocks can distort position sizing because the same chart pattern may behave differently when fresh supply is about to enter circulation.

Before chasing an altcoin breakout, traders should check unlock size versus circulating supply, recent volume, market-maker depth, exchange concentration and whether the narrative depends on short-term social momentum. If an unlock is large relative to normal turnover, reduce size, demand cleaner confirmation or avoid holding through the release window.

Risk notice: Altcoins can move sharply around unlocks, listings and social narratives. Liquidity can disappear quickly, and stop orders may not fill near the intended price.
