The main advantage is sizing. A smaller contract lets a trader test an idea, hedge spot inventory or build an options structure with less notional exposure than a full-size futures contract. That can be useful around event risk, weekend gaps, ETF-flow surprises or macro data. But smaller size does not remove futures risk. Margin can change, basis can move against the position, and options can lose value through time decay even when the directional thesis is not fully wrong.
A disciplined workflow starts with the purpose of the trade. If the goal is hedging spot bitcoin or ether, calculate the hedge ratio before opening the order. If the goal is a directional options trade, define the premium at risk, expiration and exit rule before entry. If the goal is intraday speculation, treat the product like a leveraged derivative and avoid turning a small test position into an unmanaged rolling position.
