Crypto dust is easy to ignore until a wallet becomes impossible to read. Binance.US updated its small-balance converter guide in June 2026, explaining that eligible balances under $20 can be converted into BNB, BTC, ETH or USDT, subject to a small conversion fee shown before confirmation. Kraken also maintains a small-balance conversion help page for users who want to consolidate leftover amounts.
The workflow is simple, but it is still a trade. A dust sweep sells several tiny assets and buys one destination asset. That can simplify accounting and free a wallet from unusable fragments, but it also changes exposure, may create taxable records, and can lock in a weak quote if the preview is accepted without checking.
A cautious workflow has four steps. First, confirm each balance meets the platform threshold and is not needed for fees, staking, open orders or withdrawals. Second, review the destination asset: converting dust to a volatile coin is different from converting to a stablecoin. Third, compare the quoted amount and fee before confirming. Fourth, download or save the transaction history so future tax and performance reviews are not missing small trades.
Dust conversion is most useful as wallet hygiene, not as a return strategy. If the platform requires a waiting period between conversions, plan the cleanup around reporting cycles rather than clicking repeatedly. If an asset has a pending delisting or network issue, check the platform notice first.
