Passkeys are moving from a technical feature to a normal account-security setting on major crypto platforms. Binance explains that app users can add passkeys through Account Center and Security, Coinbase recommends security keys or passkeys for stronger two-step verification, and Kraken’s 2026 support page describes passkeys as biometric or device-PIN based authentication for sign-in 2FA.
The benefit is clear: a passkey can reduce phishing risk because the user is not typing a reusable password or one-time code into a fake page. For active spot or futures traders, faster and stronger login verification can also reduce the temptation to keep weak settings just for convenience.
The risk is lockout. Before enabling a strict passkey requirement, users should confirm their device operating system support, add more than one recovery method where the platform allows it, keep account email secure, and understand whether withdrawals or transfers may be delayed after a security reset.
A practical workflow is: install only the official app, enable passkey or hardware-key based 2FA, keep authenticator backup codes offline, turn on withdrawal confirmations, and test small withdrawals before moving large balances. Security settings should be treated as part of trading infrastructure, not an afterthought.
